Saint Patrick’s Day on Wednesday March 17th is a religious holiday celebrating the Saint who converted Ireland’s pagan population to Catholicism. This feast day presents an excellent opportunity to weave our faith into the everday activities of our family life.

1. Visit www.domestic-church.com for excellent online biographies of Saint Patrick for

children of all ages.

2. Watch the DVD, St. Patrick: The Irish Legend starring Patrick Bergen, an action packed, shot on location depiction of the life of St. Patrick. This is an excellent option for having a faith based movie night with your older children.

3. Serve an Irish breakfast of Irish sausage, bacon, black or white pudding, eggs, tomatoes, potatoes, baked beans, brown or soda bread and Irish tea.

4. Corned beef and cabbage is this holiday’s national meal in the U.S. Shepherds Pie would be a appropriate substitute as St. Patrick was a shepherd during his years of captivity,

Pray as a family this piece of the great ‘prayer left to us by Saint Patrick The Breastplate of Saint Patrick

Christ with me, Christ before me,

Christ behind me,

Christ in me, Christ beneath me,

Christ above me,

Christ on my right, Christ on my left,

Christ when I lie down,

Christ when I sit down, Christ when I arise,

Christ in the heart of everyman who thinks of me.

Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me,

Christ in every eye that sees me,

Christ in every ear who hears me.

I arise today

Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,

Through belief in the threeness,

Through confession of the oneness,

Of the Creator of Creation, Amen.
